Camp Makualla has many great programs, all of which are outlined in our leaders guide. Here is some information on a few of the exciting programs we offer.

THE ARROW is Camp Makualla’s newest adventure area! Featuring 5 ranges: Target Archery, Sporting Arrows, 3-D Archery, Outback excursion and a Hawk/Knife Throwing.

Sporting Arrows: Scouts shoot foam targets our of the air! (Like Shootgun Shooting) 3-D Archery: Scouts shoot at targets of various creatures and animals! Hawk & Knife Throwing Course: Over 10 targets and shapes, different angles and some targets are even moving!

WATERFRONT: Camp Makualla is on Crescent Lake, it is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfronts a BSA camp can have. The Lake is 5 miles long and 4 miles wide, with an average depth of 124 ft and a max depth of 265 ft. During the summer the water generally ranges from 67-71 degrees. The water is incredibly clear causing it to be turquoise in color and it’s estimated you can see 60 feet below the water.

We offer Swimming, Small Boat Sailing, Motor Boating, Rowing, Canoeing, Kayaking and Lifesaving merit badges.

SHOOTING SPORTS: Our ranges are open during all program time and operate separately from merit badge instruction. We also allow adults to participate in our ranges. We offer Rifle and Shotgun merit badges, Muzzle Loader (14+) and 22-Handgun (for Ventures).

We run the NRA Winchester Award Program. This program is outlined in the Leaders Guide on page 30.

We also run the NRA- BSA Camp Postal: Annually during an 8 week period all Boy Scouts compete to see who can be the best Boy Scout Shooter in the Nation! In 2010 the top junior shooter in the Nation was a scout from Camp Makualla. We also use this program to identify Camp Makualla's weekly rifle shooting champion!

ARROWHEAD is Camp Makualla’s honor camper program. It incorporates principles and programmatic themes in ceremonies during Arrowhead level progression. Scout and Leaders are recognized for their participation and accomplishments while at Camp Makualla. The Arrowhead recognition levels are 1. Explorer, 2. Hunter, 3. Warrior, 4. Chief.
