ANNUAL PROGRAM PLANNING TRAINING AT MAY ROUNDTABLE

This May's Roundtable (Thursday, May 17, 7:00 PM, United Methodist church, 607 West Main) will be an awesome opportunity to come and gleen information on how to improve your pack or troop's program for next year! We will have planning kits, complete with the council calendar through 2013, and a host of district and unit experts with ideas on gaining new activity and camping ideas, budgeting, fundraising, training your committees and leaders, organizing your boy's advancement, and more! And, there will be hot dogs and soda! So please send at least one person from your group and take home some great stuff to share weith your committee over the summer!

                    BIG PINES CAMPOREE...THE AMAZING RACE!

Once again our Camporee committee has put together a fun and challenging program for our fall Camporee! The dates are May 18, 19, and 20 and the location is the Martucci Meadow (where we were 3 years ago). This will be a great weekend of fun and fellowship in a gorgeous location, and the event itself will be based on a lot of the themes used in the T.V. show, The Amazing Race. Roadblocks, Detours, and the ability to follow clues to get to your destination will all be part of the fun! CLICK HERE to download the Leader Guide!

Webelos are encouraged to find a troop and register to come along! This will be a great way for them to see what the Boy Scouts do, and get excited about the next phase of their Scouting journey! Cubs can even come up for the day and just watch what's going on!

Directions and registration forms are in the Leader Guide, and the fee goes up after MAy 11, so please talk it up with your troops and lets get everyone ready for another great District campout! Also, please call Dave DeCarlow at 944-1921 to help with the program by sponsoring an event!

BIG PINES DAY CAMP ADULT VOLUNTEER TRAINING

If you are volunteering to help at our Day Camp in June, our last chance for orientation is Thursday, May 31 from 6:30-8:30. If you bring a current certificate of completion for Youth Protection, you won't need to stay for the second hour. During that time we will condut a Youth Protection course. Thanks for your support of the camp! Also, check out the Day Camp page under "CAMPS" on this website, and then look at "BIG PINES" for any information regarding our specific camp!

 CHECK OUT "BE A SCOUT.ORG"!

www.beascout.org is the website created for parents who are looking onlne for information on the nearest Scouting program. Once on the website, they enter their city and zip, and a map appears with pins that represent all the Scout units near them! But there's more!

If you are the registered Cubmaster/Scoutmaster/Coach/Advisor, Committee Chair, or Charter Rep for your unit you can access a link in your My Scouting account that will allow you to customize the pin on that map. You can include the address of where you meet (right now it is the address of your Charter Organization), the times, put in leader names and contact information, and you can even put in a paragraph with the date, time and location of your upcoming Join Night! Then, with contact information on the pin, you will get calls and emails directly, and from your My Scouting account you can monitor those!

If you don't know how to set up a My Scouting Account, just call Rob at the Council office, 664-1444, and you will discover many other benefits to having an account!

JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE..A RECIPE FOR UNIT SUCCESS!

Journey To Excellence replaces the Quality Unit program from years past. But, yif you haven't taken a look at it, you will be pleasantly surprised by it! It is a common sense approach to the key factors for a successful unit, AND, they are achieveable so that all of your Pack, Troop, or Crew can earn attractive patches for your uniform! If you think of Scouting as a great tasting pizza, then think of the Journey To Excellence (JTE) as the proven recipe! Has your pizza started to taste bland? Then refresh your memory with the recipe and see if more fun doesn't come back!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO ROUNDTABLE?

Roundtable is a monthly opportunity to meet other Scouters, make new friends, and learn new tricks in the art of Scouting! It is always the third Thursday of the month (except July), at 7:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church, 607 West Main (just west of the County Courthouse on Main). There is a general session that highlights upcoming District happenings, and then  Boy Scout and Cub Scout break-outs for specific training tips for new and old leaders alike. Come and check it out...you'll be glad you took the time!

                                BIG PINES ACTIVITY GUIDE
Denise Blocher has put together an amazing resource for our district in the form of an Activity Guide. It is an amazing collection of ideas for packs and troops to consider when it comes to doing new and different things. CLICK HERE to check it out!
