The Nitty Gritty Blog: Finalize Your Yearly Plan

Finalize Your Yearly Plan

Can you believe it? Summer will be winding down before you know it and the hustle and bustle of the new school year will start.

Before we all get too deep into the new learning year, don’t forget to “Be Prepared” for a year full of fun and adventure for your Pack or Troop. Now is the perfect time to revisit what your unit will be doing for the 2023-24 school year. This should include a parent meeting to cover three very important topics for any successful Scouting unit:

  1. Annual calendar of events are scheduled
  2. Volunteer positions are filled and vacancies are identified with potential prospects
  3. The yearly budget is reviewed

Sound like a lot? Need help with planning?

Don’t worry: you have a ton of resources at your fingertips.

First: visit our Scouting Resources index and look for the Unit Program Planning on the Crater Lake Council website. Use the Guideposts to help you walk through this crucial step to to having a successful year of grit-building. Downloading the resources and having those available at your planning meeting is critical.

Second: reach out to your commissioner for advice and ideas that you might not have thought of. You can also reach out to your local Growth Coach or the Council office for help – you can find us on the Staff Directory page.

Third: share your unit’s calendar, budget, and volunteer vacancies with all of your existing families so that they can be in the know and see where they can help.

It is important to walk into the fall recruitment season with a plan, ready to share with all of the potential new Scout families that will join.

You will be organized, able to answer all of the common questions new families have, and they’ll know they are becoming a part of a great adventure!
